Saryu Valley

Majestic panoramas. The chatter of women in the fields and the tinkle of bells from the goat herds. Village guest-houses renovated from ancient buildings. A fine tented camp in the high hills with stunning balcony views of the Indian Himalayas. Warm village hospitality and enthusiastic local guides. The Saryu Valley is a very special place offering inspiring mountain holidays for you and economic benefit for the local communities.

Holidays deep into the hills

A night train north-east from Delhi and a day's drive deep into the Kumaon hills takes you to Saryu where charming, self-contained communities spread along the valley towards Tibet. Beyond the villages and terraced fields there are valleys, waterfalls and snow-covered peaks. Stay in guest-houses created from beautiful terraced 'berklays' with white-washed walls and stone roofs. Add a night or two in the splendid tented camp on the ridge of a high 'bhugiyal' meadow. Holidays here are captivating - choose great walking, gentle relaxation or focus on a special interest - all bathed in the warmth of heartfelt hospitality.

The Sayru Classic, 10 nights

There is such a sense of space in the Saryu Valley, close up to Tibet, with mountains on a grand scale and great walking in an alpine-like landscape. You visit and stay in both villages and the tented camp. With two nights spent in each you can choose whether to walk during those village days or to rest and learn more about village life. This holiday is for good walkers with an average of five hours a day. The terrain is good but with some long ascents.

Binsar and Saryu, 10 nights

Enjoy the wonderful contrast of the wooded hills of Binsar and the mountain meadows of Saryu. This holiday offers good walking with stays in both regions. You are privately guided throughout.
