Best Tour Operator for Cultural Engagement, 2009

Responsible Tourism Awards Winner, World Travel Market, November 2009

What the judges said

"These community-owned and managed projects in the Indian Himalaya offer unique and authentic cultural experiences by facilitating mutual cultural engagement at every level. This has brought previously vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals from the Dalit community into focus as porters and committee members, while enabling tourists to experience rural landscapes in non-intrusive and rewarding ways and make a significant contribution to local economic development in the villages they walk through."

The Times Green Spaces Award, 2008 - Winner - Best Place to Stay Worldwide

The Times newspaper and Times Online ran a competition based on Green Tourism, with candidates nominated by Times readers. Village Ways was put forward by one of our guests who visited in March 2008.
We were selected as one of six finalists in the category 'Green Spaces, Best Place to Stay, Worldwide'. The editor of Times Online visited Village Ways in October to judge our credentials.
On December 2nd, we were awarded 1st Prize in that category, giving Village Ways the accolade of being the Times' Green Spaces 'Best Place to Stay, Worldwide, 2008'.
'This is a genuine way to see inside rural life in India, all of its smiles, smells and joy at a very cheap price and in stunning surroundings. And it is a very worthy winner of an award.'
