Join a small group to discover this hidden corner of the Nepalese foothills. With excellent walking, spectacular panoramas and wonderful hospitality in secluded villages, travel in company to experience authentic village life in Nepal, away from the usual tourist routes. From Kathmandu you are transported to a hidden corner of this fascinating country, to charming, hillside villages where your hosts are keen to welcome you into their traditional way of life. A holiday to stretch your legs and leave you longing for more.
This holiday has fixed departure dates. The next departures are 15th March 2017 and 20th October 2017.
With your guide and small group, you walk between three secluded hill villages - Solambu, Pasiban and Teksingh, as well as spending a night in the splendid tented camp at Kholakharka. You stay in simple but comfortable guesthouses in the villages and enjoy delicious delicately spiced vegetarian food, grown in and around the communities.
Sailung peak itself is a mystical place, and a holy area for both Hindus and Buddhists. It sits at an altitude of 3,146 metres, with open rolling hills and hundreds of small hillocks. Famed for having the best sunrise in Nepal, with a 180 degree panoramic view of the mountains and a 360 degree view of the surrounding area, it is truly breathtaking. Our camp site at Kholakharka lies just below Sailung peak, just a 25 minute walk away.
Enjoy some enthralling walking, along well-trodden paths and terraced fields dotted with tiny stone temples, with some steep ascents. Walk across dramatic hillsides through forest, open pastures, past scattered villages and yak sheds, with views of the towering Himalayan peaks beyond. Walking here is excellent, with walks of 5-6 hours between villages. The mountain vistas are truly spectacular, with extensive views across the Himalayan peaks, including the magnificent Annapurna range.
Day 1 (15th March/ 20th October)
Meet the rest of your party at Kathmandu guesthouse at 12pm. Afternoon exploration of the city, overnight Kathmandu guesthouse.
After lunch, road transfer to Dhulikhel (1 1/2 hours), an old city which was used as a trading ground between Kathmandu and Tibet. Overnight at Dhulikhel Mountain Resort, located on an isolated hillock with a magnificent view of the mountains.
Road transfer to Solambu Village (4-5 hours).
Night 3 - Night 4
Spend two nights with the hospitable community of Solambu. Stay in simple, twin rooms in the village guesthouse. As this is a group holiday, the accomodation is on a shared-room basis.
Day 5 - Night 9
Walk between and visit the villages of Teksingh and Pasiban and the splendid tented camp at KholaKharaka, for a fine balance of walking and village culture. Walk between 4-5 hours each day, in the company of your group and guide. You spend two nights in each village and one night at Kholakharka, where a short walk takes you to Sailung point for unparalleled views of the mountains.
From Teksingh you walk to the village of Taar (1 hour) for your return transfer to Kathmandu ( 6.5 hours by road). Overnight Kathmandu hotel.
Transfer from hotel to Airport for homeward flight.
Your holiday includes transfers to the hills, accommodation in the village guesthouses and at Dhulikhel and Kathmandu, with all meals provided during your stay in the communities and your own guide through the hills. In the cities and during transfers, meals are at your own expense. As the guesthouses provide simple twin bedroom accommodation, this holiday is offered to single travellers on a shared-room basis.
As this is a group holiday, it is not possible to add extra nights during your stay in the hills. If you wish to add an extra night in Kathmandu before or after the itinerary, this can be arranged.
