From the mountains to the desert – villagers expand their horizons

Posted in Communities on Monday, October 3rd, 2016

In September, villagers from our partner communities in Binsar, in the Indian Himalayas, traveled deep into Rajasthan to visit Hacra and experience another Village Ways village.

They left from Almora on the Ranikhet Express on the 21st September reaching Hacra on the 22nd. They had a full day in Hacra on the 23rd and another day at Jodhpur on the 24th - they got to visit the Fort in Jodhpur before taking the return train on the 25th for Kathgodam. They all have arrived safely back in their villages. For many of the community members this was the first time they had ever traveled outside Uttarakhand and for some it was the first time on the train!

The community members greatly appreciated the hospitality of Hacra Community and Gemar Singh. Individual members of the party who traveled should be posting images from the trip on our Facebook page in the coming weeks.

We are delighted that the Binsar villages made this trip. They have been wonderful partners of Village Ways for 10 years now, and we were very pleased to make the arrangements for them.
