Parlant français dans l'Himalaya? Bien sûr!

In preparation for guests who can now book Village Ways holidays through La Balaguere, an independent specialist tour operator aimed at the French Market, our guides in Binsar and Saryu have been brushing up their language skills with lessons from French volunteer trainer Jeremie Fonviel.

Jeremie spent time in December in the villages of both Binsar and Saryu, nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas, covering topics of conversation such as greetings and introductions, talking about village life, culture and heritage, and also flora and fauna and conversation for guiding guests on walks. He came away feeling pleased at the result of his time and work with the guides, including Santosh, Harish, Hem Joshi, Bipin Joshi, Mahesh, Khim singh(jhuni)Jagdish and Kundan from the first group.

From the sounds of it, it was a good experience for all and the guides all got on really well with Jeremie, who has a keen interest in Indian culture and the Hindu methodology. After a day’s teaching and learning, the evenings were spent enjoying their time together, having fun and listening to Jeremie play his guitar and sing hindi songs!

Pooja, the Binsar coordinator, recalls that lessons were “great fun, with all the guides actively participating and building their confidence within them that they can learn this new language”.

"Merci" Jeremie, "Bonne Chance" to the guides and "bienvenue" to our French guests!
