Travel in Nepal

We ask our guests to make their own arrangements for international travel to Nepal.

For Village Ways holidays in Nepal, the airport used is Tribhuvan International, Kathmandu.

There are no direct flights to Nepal from the UK; Jet Airways offer flights from London to Kathmandu via Delhi and Etihad offer flights via Abu Dhabi.

If you wish to book with a UK travel company offering inclusive flight arrangements, please contact Inntravel. Inntravel, who are committed to responsible tourism, have worked with us for several years.

If you are flying via Delhi and book your connecting flight legs separately through different airlines, you may need to purchase an Indian visa and pass through passport control in Delhi. We recommend booking through-flights with the same airline in order to avoid this.

Passports and Visa

A visa is required for Nepal, as well as a passport valid for at least 6 months beyond the final date of your planned stay.

Tourist visas are available on arrival at Kathmandu, or at the Sunauli border crossing between India and Nepal. It is a simple process to purchace your visa on arrival, although there can be queues. If you purchase your visa on arrival, you need to pay in US dollars and bring two passport-sized photos.

A visa can also be purchased in advance in the UK, in person or by post from the Embassy of Nepal in London.

Wherever you're coming from, check to find out your exact visa requirements for Nepal with your local Nepalese Embassy, High Commission or Consulate for how best to get the required visa in your country of residence.

Everyone booking a holiday with Village Ways must take out a comprehensive travel insurance policy at the time of booking; check that the policy you choose includes full cover for belongings, for liability, and for accident and medical care including emergency cover (air ambulance etc). It should also include cancellation cover. If you are visiting the villages in the Sailung region, you will be walking and staying at altitudes of over 2,000m. Please ensure that your policy covers this activity.

We ask that you provide us with details of your policy including emergency contact numbers.

Health & Immunisation

Ask your medical practitioner for up-to-date information on health requirements for Nepal, and allow time to obtain the appropriate immunisation.

It is advisable to carry any proprietary medication you may require with you as you travel, and to take sensible precautions regarding climate, altitude, hygiene and general safety.
