Kerala Update, September 2018

Posted in News on Thursday, September 6th, 2018

All our holidays to Kerala will be available from 15th October as usual. Our regional coordinators in Kerala are on the spot in the communities and everything will be ready in plenty of time following the record monsoon floods this summer. Access via railway stations and airports has also returned to normal.

Damage within our partner villages was limited, but our coordinator and village committee in Mothakkara have been helping members of nearby communities whose homes were damaged, and our coordinator in the Backwaters is assisting a local fisherman whose small fish farm stock was lost. It is heartening to see local people rallying round in this way, and taking practical steps to help out families in need, and we fully support these local initiatives. Mr Daniel from the Mothakkara committee submitted a detailed report to Village Ways following the committee's visit to damaged homes in the nearby villages, and we are adding to the funds the committee has already committed to help families replace essential items such as bedding.

Both our Kerala communities are very much looking forward to receiving Village Ways guests again this season – the income they receive from guests is very important to them. We have also been impressed by the response by the state government of Kerala, and the speed with which they are bringing aid and helping the recovery effort, and are confident that guests will enjoy their trips as much as ever this year.

So the message is clear – Kerala is very much open for business as usual, and guests will be welcomed with extra special warmth. Please support local families by visiting their local communities.
