Cricket in the Hills - How's That?!

With their place in the semi-final now secured and Rohit Sharma currently leading run scorer of the tournament with a record five centuries, India are hoping for their third cricket World Cup title. Up in the Himalayan foothills, all eyes have been on another hotly contested tournament over the last few weeks. Every June, once the harvest season is over, the empty fields become cricket pitches and a tournament takes place between the villages of the Upper Saryu Valley. This year 18 teams took part, including our partner villages. The tournament has just reached its dramatic conclusion, with Supi village making it to the final but narrowly losing to neighbouring Patiyasaar village. The man of the series and top scorer was Bageshwar village’s answer to Sharma, Pradeep Karki. Congratulations to all!

We are running special holidays to the Saryu Valley in June to coincide with the local tournament, so book your pitch-side seats for next year! You may meet Pradeep as you pass through Bageshwar village to reach the guesthouse at Supi. To see our Himalayan holidays, click here.
