Enjoy a gentle south Indian discovery by bicycle. Explore the fragrant spice gardens and relax in the hamlet of Hulgol, in a comfortable guesthouse hosted by the local community. Take day trips by bicycle through shady forest paths to nearby farmsteads and temples. Spend a day at a local farm discovering traditional farming methods (try your hand if you wish) and enjoy a traditional lunch. Experience a true insight into rural life in the subtropical state of Karnataka.

Alluring coastal fishing village

Enjoy the leisurely pace of life in the secluded village of Pavinakurva on the shore of the Arabian Sea. Cycle along coastal paths to a nearby village and visit the local fish market. Enjoy the unspoilt beauty of the endless stretch of sand at dusk, and watch the early morning activity as the local fishermen bring in their catch. 


Opulent cities

In striking contrast to the tranquil villages, discover the city of Mysuru (Mysore), the former capital of the Wodeyar empire. Set at the foot of the Chemundi hills, Mysuru is one of south India's most enchanting cities. With the opulent Mysuru Palace lit by almost 100,000 lights, it is little wonder that it is known as the city of palaces. Explore the narrow streets and bright markets and discover the rich culture of the city. Why not also add a night in cosmolitan Bangalore, the state's capital.

South India is renowned for it's food, with light dishes packed full of flavour from the local spices. Enjoy fragrant fish and vegetable curries, flavoured with locally grown cardomom, ginger and pepper. Try your hand at making banana rotis and learn the secret to a perfect coconut chutney.

Outward Journey

Day 1 Welcome at Bangalore airport, transfer to train station for overnight train to Talguppa.

Day 2 Arrive at Talguppa station and transfer to Hulgol. (1.5 - 2 hours) Day to explore the hamlet and spice plantations, meet your guide to discuss the days ahead. Overnight Hulgol Spice House, hosted by the local community.

Day 3 Enjoy a leisurely cycling trip to a local farmhouse for lunch. Spend the day at the farm, getting to know the host family, returning to the guesthouse in the evening.

Day 4 Cycle to nearby temples, to spend the day learning about the history of the place and the local art and culture and visit the local market. Enjoy a third night at the Spice House.

To the Coast

Day 5 From Hulgol a short road transfer takes you to the nearby market town of Sirsi, where you discover the spice auction, before continuing by road to the coast (3 hours). Stay in a guesthouse in the peaceful beach-side fishing village of Pavinakurva. Relax and introduction to the area; explore the secluded sandy beach.


Day 6 Cycle from Pavinakurva to the village of Horesaal, along local coastal paths. Explore the area and enjoy lunch in Horesaal before returning to the Coast House at Pavinakurva, visiting the local fish market en route.

Day 7 Enjoy a day discovering local life around Pavinakurva. Choose to visit the local temples, discover the nearby fish market or make a visit to the brick factory. Enjoy delicious food and warm hospitality.

Homeward Journey

Day 8 - Day 9 Return by road to Talguppa to catch the train to Mysore. Explore the fascinating city, with its luxurious palaces and bustling markets, and enjoy two nights in a comfortable hotel.

Day 10 Transfer to Bangalore airport for homeward flight. 


Please note, your stay in Hulgol and Pavinakurva can be done in either order and will be arranged according to availability at the guesthouses. You will be notified of this at the time of booking.

You may wish to prolong your exploration of the spice gardens and coastal villages. Extra nights can be arranged with both of the communities; there is so much to learn and appreciate about village life and the host communities would love to keep you for a day longer.

The suggested itinerary can be extended if you wish to spend more time exploring Karnataka, or shortened if your time in India is limited. Choose to upgrade to 1st class on the trains, add extra nights in Bangalore, Mysore or in the villages.
